The role of state departments of education in complex school reform
Susan Follett Lusi
This mathematics text presents a modern treatment of multiplicative ideal theory, valid for both commutative rings and monoids, in the language of ideal systems on (commutative) monoids. Halter-Koch (mathematics, U. of Graz) adheres to the philosophy that when results are only concerned with multiplicative structure, they should be derived as far as possible without making reference to the additive structure. Given that philosophical bent, the subject of multiplicative ideal theory is, roughly speaking, the description of the multiplicative structure of an integral domain. Once described, that integral domain can then be examined by means of ideals or certain systems of ideals within that domain. This volume is suitable as a graduate text or as a reference for research mathematicians, algebraists, number theorists, and, of course, ideal and commutative theorists.
